Robert Blake was born on August 1599 and died 17 August 1657 he was one of the most important military commanders of the Commonwealth and also one of the most famous English admirals of the 17th century. He is recognised as the chief founder of England's naval supremacy and in the Royal Navy a series of ships have carried the name HMS Blake in his honour
